BMW M2 revealed
BMW's new 365bhp 2 Series Coupe gets to 62mph in just 4.5 seconds
This is the BMW M2, a 365bhp rear-wheel-drive coupe that arrives in the UK next year.
What is it?
The M2 takes over from the M235i as the most powerful 2 Series Coupe on the market. At the same time, it is the smallest M car in the current line-up.
What engines does it come with?
BMW has fitted a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder petrol unit that produces 365bhp. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard which features a throttle blip function on down changes.
However, buyers can choose the optional seven-speed automatic gearbox which features a launch control function as well as a function that allows wheelspin from a standing start.
With the standard manual gearbox, BMW claims the M2 accelerates from 0 to 62mph in 4.5sec. With the optional automatic and its launch control function that is reduced to 4.3.
How much equipment does it come with?
The M2 is differentiated from other 2 Series Coupé models by a number of exterior design changes. It gets a new front bumper, a modified grille, wider front and rear wings, chrome highlights, a boot lip spoiler and four exhaust pipes.
Inside, you’ll find a leather-bound M Sport steering wheel, sports seats in black leather with adjustable side bolsters, an aluminium footrest and a centre console-mounted kneepad for the driver.
How much does it cost?
When it goes on sale in the UK next April, the two-door will be priced at £44,070, pitching it £12,520 below the larger and more powerful M3, which until now has been the entry point into BMW’s M car line-up.
What are its rivals like?
Its two biggest rivals are both four-wheel-drive hatchbacks: the Mercedes-AMG A45 , a three-star car, and the Audi RS3 Sportback , which was awarded four stars.
